Pressure Tests
As a result of poor installation, inadequate sealing, physical damage or the wear and tear of ducting materials, ventilation ductwork can experience leakage. This term refers to the unintended escape of air from within the ductwork through cracks, gaps or openings.
What are the side-effects of pressure leakage?
- Inconsistent Temperatures – Pressure loss in HVAC systems can result in hot or cold spots throughout an area or the entire property.
- Reduced Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) – Gaps in the ductwork can allow ingress of dirt, dust and debris, which occupants may then breathe in. Furthermore, a loss in pressure can cause moisture in the system, which may create ideal conditions for the growth of mould and other harmful bacteria, leading to potential health issues.
- Energy Inefficiency – Ductwork leaks can result in an energy loss of up to 30%, which has a direct negative impact on your operational costs.
- Compliance Failure – Building Regulations require comprehensive ductwork leakage testing to ensure efficient and compliant HVAC systems.

Expert Ventilation Pressure Testing & Airtightness Solutions
IHSL’s expert technicians test whether your current ventilation system is operating at optimal efficiency, and perform the necessary repairs to any leaks or damage we discover.
We carry out pressure tests on ventilation systems in accordance with BESA DW143, ensuring that any leakage we detect is within the acceptable parameters stated in BESA DW144. If the leakage falls outside of these parameters, we rectify the issue.
Using state-of-the-art equipment and testing methods, our BESA trained technicians can help eliminate ductwork leaks and increase the airtightness of your system.
What does a pressure test involve?
- Inspection – We first conduct a thorough inspection of the ductwork system to locate and identify leakages.
- Sealing – If the ductwork in question is accessible, we use various methods including clamps, mastics and fixings to make it more airtight. However, if access is restricted, we employ a cutting-edge process called Aeroseal, which seals ducts from the inside.
- Verification – Using the latest diagnostic tools, IHSL technicians measure and ensure a successful seal.
If your ductwork requires replacing due to excessive damage, we can supply and install sections and entire systems through our sister company Imperial Ductwork Services Ltd.
