LEV/Fume Cupboard Cleans
Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems and fume cupboards are designed to capture and contain potentially hazardous contaminants, fumes, gases and vapours produced during industrial processes and laboratory experiments. Once contained, these harmful substances are prevented from becoming a health risk to employees or occupants.
An effective LEV system not only captures and contains contaminants, but also generates sufficient airflow while safely filtering and removing these pollutants from the air.
If a fume cupboard or LEV system is damaged, blocked or otherwise ineffective, it can create a considerable fire hazard and lead to respiratory illnesses for employees or occupants.
It is a legal requirement?
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations stipulate that LEV systems and/or fume cupboards be used to contain certain harmful chemicals and substances generated in industrial and commercial processes. They must also undergo regular testing within every 14 calendar months to ensure they are fully compliant, although this may be every 6 months in certain circumstances. Furthermore, these regulations require that every employer must ensure their LEV system is well maintained, in good repair and working order, and in a clean condition.
As most insurance companies require LEV systems be COSHH compliant, failure to meet these conditions may result in your insurance becoming void, and your claims denied.
The easiest and most efficient way to keep LEVs and fume cupboards compliant, safe and effective is through regular cleaning between testing dates. By cleaning fans, filters, ducts and hoods, IHSL can extend the lifespan of your system whilst ensuring it exceeds the minimum requirements of the COSHH Regulations.
Additionally, scheduled cleans will help us to identify and resolve any minor issues before they become major problems. Alongside our cleaning services, we also perform strip-outs for the decommission and removal of LEV systems and fume cupboards. Whether you wish to sell your redundant system or relocate to another property and reinstall it, you can find out how we can help on our Ventilation services page.
