Biociding, Disinfection and COVID-19 Cleans
When a ventilation system or associated plant shows signs of pest infestation, fungi or bacteria growth, a standard clean may not be enough. While traditional cleaning methods might remove the signs of contamination, they may do little to prevent it from returning days, weeks or months later. That is why IHSL offers a full disinfection service following a microbiological sampling survey and an initial clean of a contaminated system. We perform this by releasing a biocide mist into the airflow of the ductwork, which eradicates any and all contaminants as it travels throughout the system.
What does biociding involve?
- Initial Clean – The first step in any disinfection service is to thoroughly clean the system to remove dirt, dust and debris.
- Evacuation – Although the biocide IHSL uses is perfectly safe for humans and therefore poses no risk of ill health to occupants, we generally prefer to evacuate the building or the area as a precaution.
- Disinfection – Once the system is clear of debris, the biocide mist or fog is applied.
- Ventilation – Following application, we fully ventilate the area in order to allow for any chemical residue to dissipate while the biocide dries.
- Re-entry – When we are confident the biocide has done its job and has been well ventilated, occupants can re-enter and continue with their day.

Targeted COVID-19 Sanitisation and Disinfectant Misting for Hospitals and High-Risk Environments
As for COVID-19, although it is not as prominent as it once was, there are many establishments such as hospitals which still require regular sanitisation to eradicate the presence of coronavirus and prevent the spread of disease, especially among the elderly and infirm.
In such cases, we use a similar method of applying a disinfecting mist to eradicate the virus from multiple surfaces.
